Leading off the High Street is Week Street , the main pedestrianised shopping street . From here you can easily wander into Fremlin Walk , a stylish open-air shopping centre with quality independent stores and many well-known high street brands . Visitors can also peruse The Mall , a spacious indoor shopping centre , which is sure to provide the perfect day of retail therapy .
Maidstone Market takes place at Lockmeadow Entertainment Complex , which is now also home to a wonderful collection of varied and delicious independent food traders and pop-up restaurants , each boasting their own unique culinary delights . Maidstone ’ s superb location in the heart of Kent , makes it the ideal place for sampling local Garden of England produce , which can be found at local farm shops and farmers ’ markets .
Wander through the Royal Star Arcade , or down the historic Bank Street , through the Market Buildings , or along Gabriels ’ Hill which was the site of the Battle of Maidstone , fought in 1648 . The ancient buildings now house a variety of shoe shops , jewellers and eateries in this pretty , pedestrianised street . Stop off for a bite to eat in the vibrant Earl Street , or find some truly quirky shops in which to browse in Pudding Lane or Union Street .
