RAISE A GLASS TO THE UNEXPECTED
There’ s something about cocktails and brews that inspires experimentation— and Baltimore has its share of offbeat beverage concepts. Here are a few places to sip unique concoctions.
BALTIMORE SPIRITS CO.
Baltimore Spirits Co. distillery produces an offshoot line dubbed E. B. Smith Singularities, which focuses on one-off batches of limited-release whiskies, brandies, gins, liqueurs and more. Past editions have included fortified malts, smoked pommeaus and genevers. They’ re available exclusively at the Union Collective distillery in Woodberry— so top off a tour of the facilities with a sip of something truly one of a kind.
GUINNESS OPEN GATE BREWERY
The Guinness Open Gate Brewery, where expert brewers create a special menu of only-here brews, is the only one of its kind in the United States. Recent drafts have included a mocha stout that combines locally roasted coffee from Vent Coffee Roasters, hand-cut vanilla beans and cacao; a Kentucky Mule Ale, which blends a barrel-aged sour ale with ginger and lime; and a Crosslands Imperial Brown ale brewed with local honey, fig and cardamom. Head to the taproom to sample the latest experiments, or book an hour-long tour for up to 20 guests. »
