Originally debuting at the Center for Jewish History in New York , this exhibition brings to Baltimore rare 18th- and 19th-century rabbinic tomes , and religious artifacts that traveled with the first Jewish American astronaut , Jeffrey Hoffman , into space .
Freedom Bound : Runaways of the Chesapeake

This exhibition tells the individual stories of nine escaped slaves from different periods of history , ranging from the colonial era to the Civil War . Each display is complete with mannequins dressed in clothing described in runaway ads .
Betty Cooke : The Circle and the Line

OPENING IN SEPTEMBER 2021
The first major museum retrospective of the much-admired Baltimore jewelry maker Betty Cooke will include her earliest designs from the 1940s and ’ 50s and culminate with more recent pieces . The exhibit will feature about 160 objects , many inspired by birds and animals and that incorporate materials as different as metal tubing , enamel , wood and gemstones .

Mickalene Thomas : A Moment ’ s Pleasure

THROUGH MAY 2021
In the most expansive commission undertaken by both the artist and the BMA , this installation transforms the museum ’ s East Lobby into a “ living room for Baltimore ” complete with vivid prints and patterns typical of American Black culture during the ‘ 70s and ‘ 80s . Thomas also curated a presentation of artists with ties to Baltimore , including works by Derrick Adams , Zoe Charlton and Theresa Chromati , and video performances by Abdu Ali , Karryl Eugene and TT the Artist .
