CREATING PATHWAYS FOR DIVERSE STUDENTS
As the next generation of leaders emerge , it ’ s clear the future of tourism is bright . Visit Baltimore understands the importance of guiding these talented young individuals and providing them the opportunities to gain substantial and holistic experience across the travel industry .
Made possible by Guinness Open Gate Brewery , Visit Baltimore ’ s 600-hour paid apprenticeship offers emerging leaders from diverse ethnic backgrounds or underrepresented groups firsthand experience and exposure to other industry partners such as a hotel , attraction , convention , arena or other sports facility , customized to their interests and experience .
Among these bright stars is Morgan State University student , Bridget Mahn . A Maryland native , 21-year-old Bridget was introduced to the hospitality industry through the Visit Baltimore hospitality summit and embarked on a professional journey this year , focusing her talents within the realm of marketing and communications as the 2022- 2023 Visit Baltimore Education & Training Foundation Apprentice . Her introduction to Visit Baltimore encouraged her to change her major from Business Administration to Hospitality Management !
How do you think this apprenticeship has prepared you for your career after college ?
Being that I just switched my major to Hospitality when I accepted the apprenticeship , it has completely helped me form my identity in the hospitality realm to know exactly what I want to do when I graduate .
What advice would you give to future apprentices ?
No matter what space you ’ re in and who ’ s there , make sure to take that opportunity to speak up and share who you are .
