This special award is given to a well-respected leader in the city whose work touches many aspects of tourism and the community and whose passion for Baltimore shines through in all that they do .
RETIRED MAJOR MILTON L . CORBETT
Throughout years of service to the Baltimore Police Department , Major Corbett has been a pivotal part of Visit Baltimore ’ s meetings and event planning operations . He has imparted his wise leadership and public safety expertise through hands-on collaboration in supporting events like the American Legion Parade , the Shriners Parade , the Maryland Cycling Classic , the CIAA Men ’ s and Women ’ s Basketball Tournament , the Baltimore Marathon and many more . From traveling to the CIAA Tournament in Charlotte to meet with local law enforcement before it ever came to Baltimore , to serving on the planning committee and participating in early morning briefings during the week of the event , Major Corbett was integral to the success of CIAA 2022 . We are grateful for the countless hours he has and continues to put into ensuring the safety of our community and visitors and making sure our meeting and convention planners feel comfortable and supported in our city .
THE VISIT BALTIMORE BRIDGE AWARD
The Bridge Award recognizes the contributions of those who help advance the understanding and practice of diversity , equity and inclusion specifically within the hospitality and tourism industry in Baltimore . We are pleased to present this year ’ s award to two well-deserving recipients . We thank them for their tireless work in the hospitality industry , and for helping Visit Baltimore and our partners continue to learn and incorporate inclusiveness and belonging into our organizations , our community and our daily interactions .
DONTE JOHNSON
JUAN WEBSTER
Donte Johnson is the General Manager of Hotel Revival , a 107-room boutique hotel in Baltimore ’ s Mount Vernon neighborhood , bringing 20 years of experience to the role in various positions . Donte has gone above and beyond to put diversity , equity and inclusion at the forefront of the hotel ’ s community efforts , becoming the first hotel to introduce the “ Director of Culture and Impact ” role , a position dedicated to connecting the community and hospitality industry , and recently coining the phrase “ impact hospitality .” Recently , Donte and his team partnered with the city to provide jobs , support and understanding to former squeegee workers , offering employment opportunities along with stability and mentorship .
Juan Webster is the General Manager of the Sagamore Pendry Baltimore and Corporate Director , Social Impact . He ’ s a Baltimore hospitality industry veteran , having served in leadership roles for the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Baltimore Inner Harbor and the Radisson Baltimore Downtown Inner Harbor . In his current position , Juan oversees the daily operations of the luxury 128-room hotel situated on the waterfront in Fell ’ s Point , working tirelessly to connect the hotel ’ s workforce development efforts with the Baltimore community through partnerships and individual mentorship efforts . Juan recently served as the keynote speaker for the Baltimore City Public Schools All Schools Graduation , which led to a life-changing individual mentorship opportunity through the “ WeRise ” program that culminated in a job offer for the student participant in March 2022 .
