CELEBRATING THE POWER OF TRAVEL DURING NATIONAL TRAVEL & TOURISM WEEK

From collaborative community days to an exclusive podcast series, Baltimore banded together to celebrate the power of travel that unites us all.
The first full week of May brought the return of the U. S. travel industry’ s annual tradition, National Travel & Tourism Week( NTTW). Its theme? Power of Travel. It was a tumultuous and ever-changing year for every industry, but those in the hospitality and tourism sector experienced hardships of a monumental degree. At a time when the future of travel was in jeopardy, NTTW brought together industry leaders and travel communities all over the country to prove just how powerful travel can be.
As part of its participation in NTTW, Visit Baltimore hosted events throughout the week to promote the Power of Travel and acknowledge the vital role tourism plays in the city. We partnered with the Pennsylvania Avenue Main Street Association for an industry day of service to beautify the Billie Holiday Park & Garden. To encourage others to explore the hospitality and tourism industry as a fruitful career path, Visit Baltimore provided networking opportunities, including a virtual job fair, industry happy hour and a discussion with local industry leaders and Baltimore City Public Schools students. We also put a spotlight on the faces of the city’ s tourism and hospitality industry through a special 4-part podcast series with Aaron Dante, Baltimore native and host of the“ No Pix After Dark’’ podcast. These podcasts showcased the resilience and community support of Baltimore’ s small and minority owned businesses.
To close out NTTW, we unveiled a larger-than-life Visit Baltimore sculpture at Guinness Open Gate Brewery. Not only was this the perfect kick-off to the start of tourism season, it allowed us to create an Insta-worthy pilgrimage piece that inspires Charm City enthusiasts to share their love of Baltimore. And with the brewery becoming such a popular destination for Washingtonians and beer lovers throughout the region, this partnership will continue to provide opportunities for creative activations and photo ops.
After a difficult year, it was more important than ever to support Baltimore’ s travel industry to restore the city’ s economy and rebuild and uplift the workforce through the power of travel.
