One Health Education: A Holistic Approach with eTwinning Projects by Mary Nacca
The following reflections are based on my participation in the CRiF Summer School, an educational experience that particularly emphasized the concept of One Health and the importance of comprehensive care, not only for the individual but for the entire ecosystem. These principles, deeply rooted in Matthew Lipman ' s Philosophy for Children( P4C), proved an ideal bridge for exploring the extraordinary potential offered by the eTwinning platform.
eTwinning and One Health: Building critical and informed citizens through collaborative projects The eTwinning platform, with its intrinsic vocation for international collaboration and shared project work, proves to be an extraordinarily effective pedagogical tool for developing critical thinking and a holistic vision of " care " in new generations. In particular, its integration
with the principles of One Health— an approach that recognizes the profound interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health— highlights the potential of eTwinning, transforming learning into a transformative and actionoriented experience.
Dialogical philosophy and the development of critical thinking The core of this synergy lies in the application of dialogical philosophy. Within an eTwinning project, students are not simply consumers of content but become co-constructors of knowledge. Interaction with peers from diverse cultures and backgrounds exposes them to multiple perspectives, prompting them to:- question their own certainties: Confronting divergent ideas stimulates reflection and the questioning of preconceptions.- argue and justify: To express their positions in an international context, students must learn to structure logical arguments and support them with evidence.- actively listen and understand: The need to communicate effectively in a foreign language sharpens the ability to listen and interpret cultural nuances.
This dialectical process not only sharpens cognitive skills, but also cultivates empathy and respect for diversity, crucial elements for developing global citizens.
