Wonderful Kids with STEAM by Diana Gheorghe
STEM education is a concept that proposes to promote and use teaching methods based on direct inquiry and analysis to engage students directly . It is an integral approach of four fields Science , Technology , Engineering and Math the book was joined by Art becoming STEAM .
Children are curious by nature and STEAM activities are firmly rooted in this innate curiosity . Questions , exploration and that sense of wonder about the world around them is encouraged .
The large number of boys in my class ( 22 out of 31 students ) made me approach this type of education more , thus introducing an etwinning project " Wonderful kids with STEAM " into the curriculum . This project was carried out in the 2022-2023 school year with 2nd grade students with the aim of developing the skills of the century in which we live .
The objectives pursued within the project are : - Development of 21st century skills - Uses various idea generation techniques . ( Brainstorming , six hats , discussion , etc .) - Detail , refine , analyze and evaluate own ideas to develop and maximize creative efforts . - Analyzes and evaluates evidence , arguments , claims and beliefs effectively . - Analyzes and evaluates different alternative perspectives . - Solve various non-traditional problems in both traditional and innovative ways . - Clarify different perspectives and identify and ask key questions that lead to better solutions . - Uses information correctly and creatively for the problem or issue encountered
- Collaboration and cooperation with team members regardless of culture , civilization - Creating new and valuable ideas
The project brought together teachers and students from Turkey , Romania , Malta and Italy . Target group : primary school students from partner schools .
At the beginning of the project , we created videos presenting the school , the town where we live , logos and posters , and after voting , the project logo was established . The jointly agreed project activities were : - Safer Internet Day - Let ' s make a scarf ! - Carbon footprint - Raise awareness through games - collaborative digital book - Garbage Robot - Wonderful kids for a Wonderful World - collaborative book – rules for a better world - World Water Day - eTwinning Day - Acrostic - What does STEAM mean ?
The activities were easily integrated into the national curriculum , but also into the Green Week , as follows :
✓ In mathematics and exploring the environment ( MEM ), in measuring units for length , we started from a story that presents Jane who wants to give her sister a present , a scarf , but she does not have the necessary amount and decides to look for information on how it is made and make it yourself . Then we talked about nonstandard and standard units that we can use in putting these measurements into practice .
