The local consensus around the project grew exponentially Our project ‘ Recycling for our world ’ gathered a large consensus that grew and grew around us , even beyond the neighbourhood where the school is located , because it moved forward , like the PBL methodology does , in response to real problems that one encounters , indeed , in this specific case , that one suffers .
The new PEI , in the light of D . M . 29 / 12 / 2020 n . 182 , goes beyond specifying the essential elements for understanding the pupil ’ s individual needs and programming specific interventions for each of the main learning disciplines with related strategies , objectives , activities , and instruments . This PEI also requests indications on how an inclusive learning environment will be created for these special pupils .
The focus of the project , recycling waste , is very topical Besides being part of objective 12 in Agenda 2030 , I found pupils , parents and local shopkeepers to be interested and receptive
How the project worked The pupils , and this includes the special pupil , alternated classroom duties with excursions to explore the local area ( tributaries of the infamous Sarno river , irrigation canals , farming fields , crops and their cultivation systems , production of waste materials , of rubbish and their collection , separation and possible reuse and recycling ) got to know by observing , reflecting , comparing between themselves , communicating and / or learning by doing , new knowledge and understanding , but above all real life practical abilities and competencies . Their knowledge , the competencies that each of them at their own level obtained were not abstract , from a textbook or notebook , but had a strong emotional imprinting and therefore a stable , long lasting and significant cognitive-experiential permanence .
