and work. They develop important skills and
behaviours that are sometimes difficult to work on
in class, such as collaborative problem solving. In
summary, they become experts, attentive to the
learning process, listening to the group, sometimes
dissecting the classroom management techniques
used by the teacher.
Why is it a great experience to work directly
with researchers?
Because like our students, we learn in interactions.
Our mutual exchanges allow adjustments,
constantly improving learning situations. The
researchers are experts of the knowledge and skills
to be transmitted but we are the experts of the
students. We know better than anyone what a
student of such age can do and this expertise
researchers do not have!
Researchers are accessible people who are eager to
work with motivated teachers. So try it! Challenge
the researchers with whom you would like to work,
propose them your projects. I met Margarida
Romero at a summer school and Vassilis Komis at a
seminar on educational robotics. I went to talk to
them and guess what? They did not eat me! In the
end, I developed this year two projects of creative
robotics with them and my pupils and I are proud of
