Empowering EU Learning for the School of Tomorrow by Theodora Tsagkari
What happens when students from four European countries collaborate to explore democratic citizenship and shared European values through creativity and digital innovation? The answer is our eTwinning project based on our Erasmus KA122 project, " Empowering EU Students and Teachers in a Digital Age for a School of Tomorrow ", a partnership where students from Germany, Greece, Italy and Spain, became active participants in building a shared European learning community.
Students immediately became active contributors. After introducing themselves through a shared Padlet, they brainstormed logo ideas together using Drawkits before designing entries AI animated for the project ' s logo contest. These early activities established a culture
of participation, creativity and shared ownership. Innovation continued during EU Code Week 2025, when English and IT teachers joined forces to introduce coding through creative pixel art. Students designed European symbols and values using ZaplyCode( presentation), demonstrating how computational thinking can enrich citizenship education.
As the project developed, collaboration crossed national boundaries. Randomly assigned transnational teams with classtools. net worked together on a Canva presentation dedicated to European symbols and values. One school produced videos explaining a chosen EU symbol or value, while a partner school completed the presentation by adding graphics, informative texts and inspiring mottos. Students discovered that meaningful collaboration depends on communication, trust and respect for different perspectives.
Technology became a powerful learning partner. Using platforms such as Canva, Genially, TaskCards, Book Creator, Emaze and Padlet, students co-created an impressive portfolio of digital products. Together we developed an interactive Genially presentation of Christmas traditions across Europe, set up an emaze logo gallery, designed a collaborative EU timeline, celebrated linguistic diversity through a European-Day-of-Languages interactive map complemented by a multilingual BookCreator EDL publication, and planned a " Snakes and Ladders " eSafety game on Canva, in which every school contributed meaningful digital safety advice.
