These experiences demonstrated that environmental education becomes significantly more effective when children actively investigate, create, collaborate, and reflect rather than simply receive information.
Authentic experiences that build competencies One of the project ' s greatest strengths was its ability to connect classroom learning with authentic experiences. On the International Day of Forests, pupils monitored their reading progress through the Reading Forest activity, linking literacy with environmental themes. On World Water Day, they conducted scientific experiments exploring the relationship between environmental quality and human health, while partner schools contributed their findings to a shared digital book. These activities strengthened scientific inquiry, collaboration, and communication skills.
Observing a stork ' s nest through a live camera transformed children ' s curiosity into long-term scientific observation. Pupils formulated questions, made predictions, recorded observations, and discussed changes over time. Similarly, planting wheat in recycled containers and trees in the schoolyard encouraged responsibility, patience, and long-term commitment. A visit to a local apiary highlighted the ecological importance of pollinators through hands-on learning complemented by Bee-Bot robotics activities.
