to help your teen

startthe school

year off right

Work out a routine that

your child will follow when

they gets home from school. Give them some time to relax and have a snack when she first gets home. Kids need to decompress from the day just like you. Have them start homework at a specific time. Allow your child to have breaks if they have lots of work or have difficulty staying focused.

Shoot an email to your

child's teachers after the first

few weeks of school letting them know they can contact you for any reason. This will let them know you are interested in your child's success and open the door to frequent, honest communication.

The school suppplies are out and the back to school sales are on! Here are a few tips to help your teen kick the school year off right!

All schools have an

event that is held the

week before school starts where you can meet teachers, tour the school and get information. This is a great opportunity to get acclimated to the school, and find out about policies, procedures and programs. Schools also hold an Open House later in the year where you can learn more about specific classes and programs your child is involved in.

The best time to buy school supplies is at the start of

school when they're dirt cheap. Twenty-five cent paper and ten cent packs of pencils - you won't see those prices again! So, stock up on paper, pencils and other supplies your kids will need throughout the year..

Talk with your child and agree

on a quiet place where they

will study. For some kids their

room is best, but for others it has too many distractions (TV, clutter).

Wherever you choose, be sure they have access to the tools they need to complete assignments (school supplies and possibly a computer).
