Meet Lorraine Thomas. She is the founder and president of Destiny's Daughters of Promise (DDP), a non-profit organization for teenage girls. DDP is dedicated to providing leadership and mentoring programs to teen girls to build self-esteem, grow confidence and develop character.

In the fall of 2008, DDP began providing one-to-one mentoring and weekly workshop sessions at Barber Middle School located in Acworth, Georgia. The teens receive training, adult guidance and leadership development on a weekly basis during the school year.

The program has grown tremendously over the past few years expanding from one school and 8 girls to numerous schools and nearly 100 girls! Currently DDP provides mentoring and training for girls that attend Acworth Elementary School, Barber Middle School, Floyd Middle School and various high schools in the Atlanta-Metro area.

When asked about the purpose

of DDP, Ms. Thomas said," we have

a vision to see teen girls prepared to excel in higher education, exude confidence and appropriate social skills so that they may enter the work force as contributing members of society. When we save a girl, we save a generation!"

One of the most important

aspects of DDP's program is participation in relevant service

projects. Each year the girls take part in several projects that make

a positive impact on their community. This school year, Nx Gen, or Next Generation Leaders, a group made up of middle school students, have sorted and prepared Box Tops for Education. Box Tops can be redeemed for funds that schools can use for educational purposes. The girls have participated in the the Giving Tree, an outreach program which provides additional support to people in need.
