was extreme diversity. On the first three
holes alone, players are tasked with a
straightaway par 4, a bunker-heavy par
3 and then an extremely doglegged par 4
with a slimmed down fairway. That’s only
the beginning, with split fairways and natural
grass carries still ahead.
The Lakes Course, often featured by
women’s golf groups as one of Maryland’s
best, is best known for its off-shoot bunkers
(frequently used as targets), fluid
bends and wide landing areas meant to
keep the time players need looking for
errant shots to a minimum.
RIVER MARSH GOLF CLUB,
CAMBRIDGE
Opened in 2002 and named as one of
Maryland’s top courses you can play seven
years running by GolfWeek, River Marsh
and its position along the Choptank River
are highlighted by its two beautiful finishing
holes, a par-3 17th and then the par-5
finisher, both next to the river.
They’re only the exclamation points to
what can be described as a true Coastal
course. Keith Foster’s design was constructed
in a way to put the contoured land
into the forefront of the decision-making
process on most shots. Along the way,
there are creeks and picturesque tree lines
that all serve as splendid backdrops for
your group photo.

RUM POINTE SEASIDE GOLF LINKS,

Pete and P.B. Dye were given a gem of a
canvas to work with at Seaside Golf Links.
All but one hole here features views of
Sinepuxent Bay, where breezes will come
into play time and again. It’s part of the
reason the Dyes elected to keep this playable
in their own way.
Converse to the 7,001-yard black tees,
the 6,004-yard whites give players plenty
of lesser options starting off the par 4s and
even some of the par 5s. Still, those who
want to utilize the driver will have every
opportunity to do so; the fairways are typically
wider than a traditional Dye layout.
Instead, they let extensive mounding
and all that water do most of the talking.
