was extreme diversity. On the first three holes alone, players are tasked with a straightaway par 4, a bunker-heavy par 3 and then an extremely doglegged par 4 with a slimmed down fairway. That’s only the beginning, with split fairways and natural grass carries still ahead. The Lakes Course, often featured by women’s golf groups as one of Maryland’s best, is best known for its off-shoot bunkers (frequently used as targets), fluid bends and wide landing areas meant to keep the time players need looking for errant shots to a minimum. RIVER MARSH GOLF CLUB, CAMBRIDGE Opened in 2002 and named as one of Maryland’s top courses you can play seven years running by GolfWeek, River Marsh and its position along the Choptank River are highlighted by its two beautiful finishing holes, a par-3 17th and then the par-5 finisher, both next to the river. They’re only the exclamation points to what can be described as a true Coastal course. Keith Foster’s design was constructed in a way to put the contoured land into the forefront of the decision-making process on most shots. Dye were given a gem of a canvas to work with at Seaside Golf Links. All but one hole here features views of Sinepuxent Bay, where breezes will come into play time and again. It’s part of the reason the Dyes elected to keep this playable in their own way. Converse to the 7,001-yard black tees, the 6,004-yard whites give players plenty of lesser options starting off the par 4s and even some of the par 5s. Still, those who want to utilize the driver will have every opportunity to do so; the fairways are typically wider than a traditional Dye layout.
