signs autographs at this
year’s U.S. Senior Open.
“The PGA Tour Champions, Dominion
Energy and the Country Club of Virginia
all realized we had an opportunity to
make a big statement and to do some-
thing special with a long-term extension,
ensuring the tournament is a part of this
community for years to come.
“We typically look forward a year or two
at a time. While we realize it is important
to be looking toward the future and to
develop long-term relationships and plans,
the industry and the event will continue to
evolve over the term. We need to stay nim-

Appreciation Ceremony at the conclusion
of the first round of play on Oct. 18.
Each of the first two years, the DECC
received the Players Award as voted on by
PGA Tour Champions players.
“We were humbled to have been voted
the players’ favorite tournament of the
season in 2016. To receive that recogni-
tion again in 2017 was remarkable as no
event had previously earned the award in
successive years. It speaks to the support
the tournament has generated and the
players notice that,” Schoenfeld said.
The tournament also has generated a
cumulative total of $1.8 million that has
been distributed to local charities.
“Back in 2016 when we first arrived, we
established that supporting military relat-
ed organizations would be at the forefront
of our efforts,” Schoenfeld said. “The Vir-
ginia Values Veterans program and Rich-
mond Fisher House have been a major part
