LPGA TOUR / JEFF MARSH , RTJ COURSE |
Looking Ahead
While the selection criteria for the Solheim Cup ’ s venue varies , Allen says that RTJ was chosen by the LPGA in part , because of its history holding large scale golf tournaments . The course ’ s ability to hold a large number of people was also an important factor — Allen says the course is fairly flat , allowing more viewing areas for spectators . Getting the word out to those spectators about the Solheim Cup , is what Allen and her team are focused on right now .
“ Day-to-day right now is really just kind of focused on overall event planning and sponsorship sales . It takes a lot to put on an event of this magnitude ,” Allen said . “ Then just planning some of our bigger events , you know , the opening ceremony , what happens on the first tee , the gala , just getting all of those plans in place .”
Named executive director two years ago , Allen has been with the LPGA for over 11 years and has worked at six Solheim cups . One goal she has for the 2024 tournament is to exceed economic impact

and spectator goals — the 2021 Solheim Cup had roughly 130,000 people in the stands throughout the week . Through the tournament , Allen hopes to expand the audience for women ’ s professional golf , and show visitors from around the world what the Gainesville area and Virginia golf has to offer .
“ You know we won ’ t be returning to that area , just given the nature of the Solheim Cup ,” Allen said . “ So , I ’ m excited for fans all over the country and world to come to the Solheim Cup , to be able to take in the golf at RTJ , but then spend additional time — whether it ’ s golfing at other courses in the area , seeing the sights , there ’ s just really so much for everyone to do .”
