Full Cry , one of the last golf courses designed by the brilliant Pete Dye , hosted the VSGA Mid-Amateur in September . Part of the iconic , luxury Keswick Hall resort that dates back to 1912 and has received the prestigious Forbes Five-Star Award every year since 2015 , Full Cry is a passionate supporter of golf and the VSGA . Over the past five years , this outstanding club has hosted the VSGA Amateur , the Mid-Amateur , and the Senior Amateur .

Dye was a prolific architect who designed for over 50 years and created approximately 175 courses worldwide . He is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame and a recipient of the Old Tom Morris Award — the highest award of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America — as well as the PGA Distinguished Service Award , the premier honor of the PGA of America . Dye authored nine of the top 100 Courses in Golf Digest ’ s latest biennial ranking of America ’ s greatest courses ; his genius is reflected in such masterpieces as Whistling Straits , The Ocean Course , The Golf Club , and TPC Sawgrass ( Players Stadium Course ).
Built over the beautiful , rolling terrain native to central Virginia and with the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains providing an
idyllic backdrop , Full Cry is a superb test of golf , and it was recently presented with a Golf Digest Award for “ Best Golf Resorts in the Americas .” Dye , who passed away in 2020 from Alzheimer ' s , completely renovated the existing Keswick course in 2014 to create Full Cry . Its namesake pays homage to the term referring to hunting hounds in hot pursuit of a fox — such an important part of the rural culture in this part of the commonwealth .

By raising the elevation of the tees and adroitly adapting the existing pond that was made even more powerful with the addition of the beautiful stone wall , Dye created a dynamic risk / reward tee shot . An open approach to the green is inviting , but the long slender putting surface is 35 yards deep , making club selection and distance control critical on the second shot . This well-designed green offers a variety of excellent hole locations to challenge the golfer .
One of the wonderful features of the finishing hole at Full Cry is the vista . As reflected by the dramatic closing holes at The Players Championship , Dye strongly believed the home hole should convey a

sense of occasion ; from the 18th tee at Full Cry , the golfer can see holes 10 , 11 , 12 , 15 , 16 , and 17 and the backdrop to the green is magnificent Keswick Hall . And as Pete was fond of saying , the hillside above the green can hold 5,000 fans … just in case . Classic Pete Dye !
A five-time VSGA Player of the Year , David Partridge was elected to the Virginia Golf Hall of Fame in 2020 . He lives in the Richmond area and works as a mortgage banker .
