IN MEMORIAM : JACK VARDAMAN / CHIP HEYL The VSGA mourns a pair of past champions who died in September . Jack Vardaman , a four-time VSGA champion who won his final titles in 2018 at the VSGA Super Senior Stroke Play and VSGA Super Senior Amateur championships , died on Sept . 23 at the age of 80 . A well-respected lawyer and graduate of Washington & Lee University , Vardaman served as general counsel to the USGA , as chair for the Washington , D . C . First Tee program , and on the board of directors for the Amateur Golf Alliance , representing the D . C . area .
On Sept . 6 , Chip Heyl , winner of the 1975 VSGA Open , died at the age of 79 . Heyl won that Open by five strokes over professional Jennings House , and he was also the runner up at the 1974 VSGA Open at Danville Golf Club , falling to Vinny Giles on the third hole of a playoff .
BILLY CASPER GOLF REBRANDS Billy Casper Golf , which manages seven golf clubs in Virginia , has rebranded as Indigo Golf Partners , representing a new modern brand aligned with golf ’ s evolving landscape and the company ’ s leadership in golf course ownership and operations .
VSGA member clubs under the Indigo umbrella include 1757 Golf Club , Brickshire Golf Club , Forest Greens Golf Club , Magnolia Green Golf Club , Prince William Golf Club , Reston National Golf Club and Spring Creek Golf Club .
Nationwide , Indigo manages more than 160 golf courses , country clubs and resorts in 29 states .
