In a lot of ways , Mike McCartin ’ s upcoming redesign of Washington , D . C .’ s three historic golf courses is meant to be . As a child , McCartin was fascinated with golf course design , constantly coming up with new ideas for holes and courses . When McCartin was in graduate school 17 years ago , he wrote his thesis about a proposed redesign of his childhood golf course , East Potomac Park Golf Course . Nearly two decades later , McCartin , now a notable golf course designer , is taking on his latest project : a redesign of D . C .’ s three historic golf courses , Langston , Rock Creek , and his very own East Potomac Golf Course .
