8 TH VSGA SUPER SENIOR FOUR-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP Winners : Jim Woodson and Jimmy Angel ( 65 +), David LeClere and Bill Stout ( 70 +), John Casstevens and Tom Vogt ( 75 +) The story : Woodson and Angel were unlikely winners in the 65 + division , needing a birdie putt on 18 at Chantilly National G & CC and a stumble from Tim Vigotsky and Jack Allara to force their way into a playoff . Angel did his part , making birdie on 18 . Then Vigotsky and Allara made double bogey on 18 to fall out of the playoff altogether . Instead , Woodson and Angel played off with David Partridge and Harry Thomas and won when Angel made another birdie putt on the first playoff hole . Woodson won his second straight title in the event , having paired last year with Leon Roday at The Virginian .

The story : Newly eligible for the Senior Women ’ s Amateur after turning 50 earlier in the year , Miller dominated match play at The Homestead ’ s Old Course , an overwhelming run capped by the 5-and-4 win over three-time champion McGurn . Miller never played past the 14th hole in any of her four matches . She certainly earned her title . In her final three matches , she ousted Natalie Easterly , Mimi Hoffman and McGurn , who between them own 10 Senior Women ’ s Am titles .
“ This ranks right up there for me ,” Miller said . “ Just knowing these ladies for so long and having to compete against the slate of competitors I had to go through , this ranks at the very top .”
2 ND VSGA SUPER SENIOR WOMEN ’ S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP Winner : Dot Bolling ( def . Maggie Balch 1 up in final ) The story : Bolling made par on the 18th hole to clip Balch , capping a match featuring several wild swings down the stretch . Balch led 1 up and nearly won the match on 17 when she missed a par putt . Instead of tapping in for bogey , Balch picked up her ball , but Bolling had not conceded the putt . The one-stroke penalty for lifting her ball without marking it cost her the hole and sent the match to 18 tied .
TEAM COMPETITIONS 75 TH CAPTAIN ’ S PUTTER MATCHES Winner : Virginias def . Carolinas , 24½-23½ The story : The teams entered Saturday singles at The Greenbrier Resort ’ s Old White TPC tied at 12 , and the Carolinas had an edge in the singles matches late until Dustin Groves turned a 4-down deficit on the back nine into a stunning 2-up victory . West Virginian Cam Roam clinched the Virginias ’ win with a par on No . 17 . Three West Virginians secured all three points on the weekend — Roam and seniors Pat Carter and Tim Mount . The Virginias snapped a two-year losing streak in the series .
“ It ’ s fantastic ,” Groves said . “ It makes me want to cry , to be honest . We just weren ’ t in it the last two years , and I knew this team was really good . So , gosh , this feels great .”
