One more highlight: Finishing second in the Senior Am was also
right up there as I had a lot of good matches over three days to make
it to the final. All the guys I faced were very good players and we all
played well in very close matches that could have gone either way. I
was happy for Steve (Serrao). He had a great week and I know how
much it meant to him to win the Senior Am after winning the VSGA
Junior a number of years ago.
WHAT’S ONE UNIQUE ITEM IN YOUR BAG?
That would probably be my 2-iron. Most guys by age 63 have long
given up 2-irons in favor of hybrids but I can’t seem to find one I like
so I just keep hitting the 2, but rest assured I keep looking for a hybrid!
WHAT’S A DREAM GOLF DESTINATION FOR YOU?
That’s an easy one. Still hoping for an invitation to play Augusta
National before the golf skills deteriorate too much. I will have clubs
ready to travel at a moment’s notice!
WHAT’S ONE TIP YOU RECEIVED IN 2019 THAT REALLY
HELPED YOU SUCCEED?
I would have to say it was a putting tip from my friend Jeff Pillow,
who suggested a few minor changes in my setup to help free up my
stroke. That’s the great thing about golfers, they always want to
help fellow golfers straighten out a portion of their game they’re
struggling with. The challenge is always doing your best against the
course, and we should all try to help other golfers achieve that goal,
it’s what makes golf a truly great competitive sport.

WHAT WAS YOUR PERSONAL HIGHLIGHT THIS YEAR?
Any chance I get to play in a four-ball tournament with my sons
is always a highlight. I played with Tim Jr. in the Parent-Child at
Spring Creek and we had just a great day spending time together.
He lives in Philadelphia so I cherish the time more than ever. We
didn’t win, but it was still a highlight. Tim Jr. and my other son
Chris and I went to Game 5 of the World Series at Nats Park and
got home at 2:30 in the morning after stopping at a 24-hour diner
on the way home—pretty much a perfect day. What time it was
seemed unimportant.
WHAT’S ONE UNIQUE ITEM IN YOUR BAG?
Probably my putter. At first glance, it looks just like your everyday
Scotty Cameron putter. Everyone who grabs it can’t believe how long

it is—37 inches. It has a slightly flat lie and added loft by a degree. I
still have a regular size grip in the day and age of super thick grips.
All that allows me to swing the putter head easily and when I do that
I feel a release, which sometimes brings decent results.
WHAT’S A DREAM GOLF DESTINATION FOR YOU?
Sometimes dreams come true, and when I was in my 20s I dreamed
about one day playing Pebble Beach. It took a little while, but I am
blessed to have played in a tournament at Pebble for the last 15 years
with my two best friends from grade school and high school. It is an
unforgettable week with memories that will last forever.
WHAT’S ONE TIP YOU RECEIVED IN 2019 THAT REALLY
HELPED YOU SUCCEED?
This isn’t really a tip, but let’s call it one—and it came from my good
buddy Leon Roday way back in May in my very first super senior
event. I was getting heckled the entire tournament mostly about
playing a shorter golf course—how I should be ashamed of myself,
the usual banter. After walking off the 18th green at Boonsboro, I
saw Leon and asked him where the scorer’s table was located and he
said, “For you Mr. Super Senior, it’s 50 yards closer than the regular
scorer’s table.” Six months later we still get a laugh. I have to give it
to him—it was a really good line.
2019 HIGHLIGHTS
» Won VSGA Super Senior Amateur Championship (65–69 age division).
» Won the Washington Metropolitan Golf Association Senior
Championship.
» Won the Middle Atlantic Golf Association’s Super Senior Amateur
Championship.
» Became the first player to ever hold titles from the VSGA, MAGA and
WMGA in the same year. “It’s almost impossible to have a ‘first’ in
the Middle Atlantic given the great players like Vinny (Giles), Keith
(Decker), David (Partridge), Marty West, Dave King and now successful
tour players like Fred Funk and Lanto Griffin, so that felt pretty cool,”
Vigotsky said.
» Finished No. 1 in the VSGA Super Senior Player Rankings.
» Won Super Senior Division titles at the Fox Puss Invitational, Golden
Horseshoe Four-Ball and Cascades Invitational.
