COURTESY OF THE COURSES AND BREWERIES
FEW YEARS AGO during The Match pitting Brooks Koepka vs . Bryson DeChambeau , reporter Amanda Renner relayed an interesting story about how Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin used to play the same course where the bulky battle was happening . Except , The King of Cool and Ol ’ Blue Eyes always teed it up with ( more than ) a few drinks . However , they could never finish 18 holes because they ran out of drinks in their cart — that is until the course formerly known as Desert Inn Golf Club created and assembled what might have been the first on-course beverage cart . Today , the beverage cart is synonymous with American golf and there ’ s no finer sight when you ’ re out playing in the hot sun of the Virginia summer than the beverage cart chugging toward you and your group .
While some folks who choose to imbibe on-course might enjoy a classic Transfusion or the current trend of hard seltzer , most folks tend to go with beer . Yes , the combination of grain , hops , yeast , and water quenches thirst and is equally useful to drown sorrows after a triple bogey or celebrate an unlikely birdie . Thanks to the booming craft beer industry in Virginia , wherever you tee it up there ’ s probably a brewery tasting room nearby .
