RED SPEIGLE AWARD ($4,500) The Red Speigle Award is given annually to a deserving student from Virginia’s Peninsula/Tidewater region and is named after teaching legend Walter Lashile “Red” Speigle. The 2020 recipient is Zach Deal, a four-year captain of Landstown High School’s varsity team who ranks No. 1 in his class of 523 with a 4.39 PGA. Deal will attend Notre Dame. DAVID A. KING AWARD ($4,500) An endowed scholarship established in 2002 by premier senior amateur golfer David King, this award went to Great Falls’ Carleton Draughn, a member of Langley High School’s golf team. The Saxons won the last two VHSL Group 6 titles. RICHARD SMITH AWARD ($4,500) The Richard Smith Award was established in 2017 in the name of the VSGA’s late Director of Competitions. Brennan, a four-year member of Tuscarora High School’s varsity golf team, recorded a 4.25 GPA and will play golf at Wake Forest University. He will play on the prestigious Arnold Palmer Scholarship.
