You’ ll find an 18-hole Joe Lee-designed layout at The Crossings Golf Club in the Richmond suburb of Glen Allen that utilizes the natural landscape. Interestingly, the area served not only as a hideout for outlaws but also a staging area for troops during the Civil War. Framed by a thick forest, the course offers rolling fairways and strategically placed bunkers.
Hunting Hawk Golf Club in Hanover County also pays homage to its natural backdrop with wetland areas such as ponds incorporated as features. The course is attractive to players of all levels because of fairways that offer golfers a variety of ways to play each hole.
Other public courses in the area include Glenwood Golf Club, celebrating 87 years of golf, Providence Golf Club with a course designed by Lester George, Mill Quarter Plantation Golf Course in the Powhatan countryside, Belmont Golf Course in Henrico County, and Sycamore Creek in Goochland County, just five minutes west of Short Pump Town Center.
