DJ
La Marr, a 37-year-old with an intellectual disability from Richmond, is a Special Olympics athlete who plays golf at Belmont Golf Course. He participated in the Independence Golf Club clinics and play day.
As parents, we were so impressed with the individualized instruction our son and others received from the golf instructors. We also valued their positive approach, always offering encouragement and tips for improvement.
At one of the clinics, DJ met Jason Hasty, who has made his own golfing mark on the adaptive golf circuit. The two hit it off, and Jason even partnered with DJ for the Special Olympics golf State Games at Virginia Beach this past October. They took home a gold medal in DJ’ s division and have since played more golf together. DJ has been invited to play with the University of Richmond golf team in August. He already talks about his hope for a future clinic at the Independence Golf Club. He learned so much from the instructors and had a lot of fun!”
