KISSING TREE GOLF CLUB ( San Marcos ) – This semi-private course 35 minutes south of downtown Austin blends the natural landscape of Texas Hill Country with its manicured fairways and contoured greens . Designed in 2018 by Texan Gary Stephenson and managed by Troon Golf , back-tee yardage is around 6,600 yards , but this par-72 course offers birdie opportunities with three short par-4 holes . The facility also has an 18-hole putting course and a short-game practice area .
GREY ROCK GOLF CLUB – This daily-fee Jay Morrish design spans 160 acres with mature oaks , water features and appealing vistas on a challenging course layout measuring around 6,900 yards with wide , flat fairways and undulating greens . Located 20 minutes south of downtown Austin , the par-72 tract is considered one of the capital city ’ s top
public courses , with a grill and biergarten at the end .
LIONS MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSE – Opened in 1924 , this is the oldest public course in Austin and was one of the first desegregated golf courses in the South . At only 6,000 yards in length , it ’ s not a championship design , but this par-71 course is mapped out with dogleg fairways , mature oak trees and challenging greens . Listed on the Registry of Historic Golf Courses and among National Historic Places , it ’ s also where Texans Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite played some of their early rounds .
