Avoid a Flagstick Flap
Players have responsibilities under the Rules of Golf
as it pertains to the flagstick | by ELISE KAIN
John is 15 yards off the putting
green and wants Patrick to remove
the flagstick before he plays. Once
John hits his shot onto the putting green,
Patrick then strikes his putt too firmly and it
rolls off the green and into the rough. He
decides to chip the ball for his next stroke, and
chooses to place the flagstick back in the hole.
Are the actions of both players permitted?
a. Yes
b. No

Patrick plays a great second shot on
a par 4 hole and is left with a short
tap-in putt for birdie. He pulls the
flagstick out of the hole, holds it with one
hand and taps in his putt one-handed with his
putter.
