Looking to make the transition to competitive golf ? VSGA members share their stories

Three-time VSGA Senior Women ’ s Amateur champion Andrea Miller rekindled her desire to play competitive golf after moving from Houston to Charlottesville for her job . A shoulder injury ended Scott Bemberis ’ s tennis career , so law school friends convinced him to play golf .

Mary Beth Huneke didn ’ t pick up a golf club until she was 55 years old . George Riefler knew he could compete with fellow senior golfers in the VSGA Senior Amateur . He proved it one week in August 2015 .
Each of these golfers has made the transition from enjoying a day on the course with friends to enjoying , with new friends , the competitive side of tournament golf . And they have done it later in life .
Here , they share their stories and can hopefully inspire other VSGA members who think competitive golf is out of reach . Looking for a place to start ? The VSGA One-Day Program and the VSGA Net Amateur and Net Women ’ s Stroke Play championships all offer an introduction to tournament golf . Visit VSGA . org to learn more .
