Waccamaw’s
Wonders
The underrated Hammock Coast of South Carolina
features a cluster of outstanding courses

WE’VE SEEN small pockets of the country promote their architects, brag on
their designs or crow about the settings on which their products were built.
Very few are able to do so quite like the Waccamaw Golf Trail.
Some 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach in the area known as the Hammock Coast, the
Trail has established itself as a standalone destination for players looking for one of the
best groupings of courses the Southeast has to offer. Twelve courses—the lowest of which
holds a 3.5-star rating from the various national services—prop each other up while
providing the next great round only minutes away.
“It’s just an outstanding cluster of golf courses,” said Bob Seganti, general manager of
two of the courses and also the current executive director and president of the Waccamaw
Golf Trail marketing board. “The beautiful thing is they’re in such a close proximity. You
could be an eight-minute drive from front door to front door. You could come to the trail
for three years in a row and play different courses and not have a slouch among them.”
