VSGA TEAM SET FOR VIRGINIAWEST VIRGINIA MATCHES The VSGA championship season officially starts on April 19 with a Four-Ball Stroke Play Championship qualifier. Four days later, the first of seven interstate matches featuring VSGA members gets underway at The Homestead. The Virginia-West Virginia Matches begin April 23 with foursome and four-ball play and will conclude on April 24 with singles matches. The VSGA team holds a dominating 27-4-1 lead in the series with the West Virginia Golf Association squad and has won the last six meetings. VSGA president Bruce Matson (Hermitage CC) will captain the squad, which features regulars Buck Brittain (Fincastle on the Mountain), Matt Chandler (Hunting Hills CC), Keith Decker (Chatmoss CC), Jimmy Delp (Laurel Hill GC), Jon Hurst (Fredericksburg CC), Vincent Nadeau (Spring Creek GC), Jordan Utley (Independence GC) and Justin Young (Ballyhack GC); seniors Jack Allara (Hidden Valley CC), James Gallagher (Tidewater Amateur Golf Tour), David Partridge (Hermitage CC) and Dave Pulk (Two Rivers CC); and super seniors John Casstevens (The Federal Club) and John Cuomo (Laurel Hill GC). NEW CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR 2016 The 2016 VSGA championship schedule features two new events: The Mid-Senior Amateur Championship and the Women’s Four-Ball Championship. The Mid-Senior Amateur, which is for players aged 60-64, will be held July 6-9 at Spring Creek Golf Club in Gordonsville in conjunction with the Super Senior Amateur Championship. Like the Super Senior Amateur, the Mid-Senior is a fourday event featuring two days of stroke-play qualifying and two days of match play. The Women’s Four-Ball event has existed in the past in net and gross form, but it was elevated to a championship for 2016.
