First Tee – Greater Washington , D . C . is celebrating its 25th anniversary , and a new home at Rock Creek Golf Course will ensure growth well into the next quarter century

On a cool , misty Friday morning in May in the heart of the nation ’ s capital , Clint Sanchez led a quick tour of a nearly century-old track — Rock Creek Park Golf Course . Sanchez , executive director of First Tee – Greater Washington , D . C ., navigated bumpy dirt paths in a gas cart , pointing out the bones of a historic William Flynn design that is in sore need of rehabilitation . Only 14 holes are in play , as several were abandoned because the canopy of trees had become so overgrown that it led to major agronomic issues , such as weedy greens and bare fairways .

It ’ s really shaped me into the person I am today . Honesty , integrity , sportsmanship , all those things shaped me into a nice , respectful young man .”
