It ’ s a long walk to the top to reach the back tees here , so go ahead , take a breath , and admire the view . Then decide : Go for it ? Or play it safe ? The view is deceptive , as it ’ s a steep drop to the fairway but a tough climb back to the green once you ’ re down there . Like most holes of this nature , a risk assessment is in order . The narrow green is flanked by two bunkers — one on the back left and one on the front right . And if you ’ re well short and left , there ’ s another tricky bunker , and if you ’ re caught in that , good luck trying to get out and score .
There ’ s plenty of fairway , and the safe play is to just hit 3 wood or driving iron down the middle and take your chances with your approach . This hole is representative of the challenges of Princess Anne , a difficult track despite its short stature . It ’ s no wonder Princess Anne has often been rated as one of the world ’ s top courses under 6,000 yards .

Host of the 2020 VSGA Amateur and this summer ’ s VSGA Junior Stroke Play Championship , River Bend in Great Falls features a fantastic short par-4 that inspires several levels of thought before hitting your tee shot . Going for the green is an option , but dangers lurk everywhere . Two bunkers flank the front of the green , one each on the right and the left . Another bunker is directly right of the green . Any ball that gets through the green could end up in thick rough and trees behind the green .
Thinking of hitting to a short number inside of 100 yards ? The fairway narrows at the landing area . Two bunkers flank the left side of the serpentine fairway at this point , and a tree on the right can be problematic as well . The safest option to play an iron to about the 150-yard range and hit in from there . How safe do you want to play it ?
