The One-Day events are held all over the state at both public and private courses . They are a great opportunity to play somewhere you otherwise may not be able to play . They are also an exciting opportunity to meet golfers from all over the state and enjoy a day on the links with a different foursome than you are used to .
My experience in these events has always been exceptionally fun , though I always enjoy playing with new golfers . The biggest takeaway from the One-Day events for me is that they are very low stress , where everyone is trying to play well , but mostly want to have an enjoyable day on a nice course .
Aside from the regular One-Day events , there are also other specialty events that take place for net golfers throughout the year . These events include One-Day four-ball team events , ladies lunch events , and two major tournaments . The first is the One-Day Tournament of Champions , being held at Ford ’ s Colony Country Club in late September . It is a staple event on the One-Day schedule that golfers can qualify for by playing well in other One-Day events . The second event , which will be played about a week earlier this year in September is actually a championship event in just its second playing this year . The 2nd VSGA Net Amateur will be held at Williamsburg Golf Club over two days after a successful inaugural event in
2020 , and it provides us with an opportunity to take home a trophy .
These two events will test golfers of all skill levels from around the state usually with gift card prizes going to the winners . Last year ’ s VSGA Net Amateur included golfers with handicaps ranging from + 4 all the way to 29 , including a contingent of women , seniors , and super seniors all competing for the overall championship , their age championships , and a women ’ s championship .
My goals for this year will be to try lowering my handicap and to have my game peak for the 2nd VSGA Net Amateur . I hope that many of you will join me in playing at least some of the One-Day events and championships to test your games and experience tournament golf at a level we can all play .
The beauty of the handicap is that we can shoot those under-par scores , albeit adjusted for handicap . We essentially play against ourselves and the course .
