ess than 30 miles from the
nation’s capital, Dumfries
likes to bill itself as
“Virginia’s oldest town.”
Starting this past May, it can now
justifiably add a bit more hyperbole,
as home of the newest and one of
the most spectacular daily-fee golf
courses in the commonwealth.
That would be Potomac Shores
Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus design,
and the only Nicklaus public
course in the entire Washington,
D.C., area. Clearly it’s been well
worth the wait, considering the
travails this star-crossed yet
terrific track has experienced.
The par-5 10th hole offers players
multiple avenues for play.
