“We’ve known each other
for several years now.
We looked at this as an
opportunity to do some-
thing fun together. I shot
him a text earlier in the
year, and I was like, ‘hey,
this could be a fun one to
do.’ He accepted, and
here we are.”

SPRING SWING
Dominion Valley CC, Haymarket |
May 19-20
The VSGA Four-Ball Championship rep-
resented the first VSGA title for either
Brandon Cigna or Matt Sughrue, but
don’t let that fool you. Both players came
to Dominion Valley with an extensive
national resume. Cigna and partner Ben
Warnquist reached the final match at
the 2016 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Cham-
pionship, while Sughrue was a finalist
in the 2016 U.S. Senior Amateur. Both
were exempt into this championship,
10
provided they found a partner who was
also exempt. Thus a side was formed.
The Arlington duo posted a 10-under-
par 62 in the second round for a two-
round 128 and a two-stroke victory. They
entered the day two shots back of the
field, birdied their first hole and never
looked back.
Field and format: Six qualifying sites
and exemptions produced a field of 44
sides for two rounds of stroke play.
First-round leaders: Five sides tied
at 64.
