Brian Anania congratulates Steve Serrao.
“You have to stay really calm and just focus on your
swing. You can’t control when the wind is going to
pick up. But if you try to make as many good swings
as possible and understand that you’re going to
catch some bad breaks. The ball isn’t going to go
exactly where you want it sometimes. You just try
to stay calm and swing easy.”

35th Virginia-West Virginia Team Matches
OLDE MILL, LAUREL FORK | April 28-29
A long win streak ended, but Ye Old Feudin’ Stick remains in Vir-
ginia’s hands. For just the second time in event history, the matches
ended in a deadlock, as the VSGA squad rallied from a one-point defi-
cit after Saturday’s foursome and four-ball play to level the matches
at 14-14. The tie snapped Virginia’s eight-year win streak in the event.
Field and format: Invitation-only event featuring eight reg-
ulars, four seniors and two super seniors on each squad facing
off in a series of foursome, four-ball and singles matches. One
point available in each match.
It was over when: Steve Serrao made a two-putt par on 18
to secure a hard-fought 2-up singles win over West Virginia’s
Brian Anania, securing the tying point for Virginia.
