A Gathering Of Legends FOR ONE NIGHT, legends of Virginia golf got together at The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs. On May 10, the Virginia Golf Hall of Fame held the induction ceremony for its inaugural class, which featured Vinny Giles, Chandler Harper, Clyde Luther, Sam Snead, Curtis Strange and Lanny Wadkins. The four living members of the class were present. Strange spoke on behalf of Harper, who became a father figure to Strange after Strange’s father passed away. Jackie Snead spoke for his late father, Sam, whose name is synonymous with golf in Bath County. To visit the virtual Virginia Golf Hall of Fame website, go to virginiagolfhallofame.com. There you’ll find information, photos and other media assets of the six inductees, plus a nomination form for the 2017 Hall of Fame class. Next year’s induction ceremony will be held on May 18, 2017, at the Country Club of Virginia in Richmond. Above, Claudette Luther watches as her husband Clyde gives his induction speech.
