Professional Golf at the Crossroads

SO NOW WHAT ? There ’ s never been more of a sense of instability in the men ’ s professional game . Between players weighing offers from LIV Golf to the PGA Tour ’ s dalliance with Saudi Arabia ’ s Public Investment Fund , the professional game seems to be in a state of tenuous flux heading into the 2024 season . Add in the controversy over the USGA and R & A ’ s decision to roll back the golf ball in the future , and uncertainty is the overriding theme heading into the new year .
There is one certainty : A full calendar year PGA Tour schedule featuring several signature events that will feature some of the game ’ s best players . The 2024 season will be the first since 2013 to be played entirely in the same year , as the Tour scrapped the wraparound schedule that had been in place from 2014-23 . In 2024 , winners of normal events will receive 500 FedEx Cup points . Signature event winners will receive 700 and major championship winners will receive 750 . Winners of smaller events opposite of majors and signature events will receive 300 points . The first two playoff events ( St . Jude , BMW ) award 2,000 points to their respective winners .
