ometimes, the right people are in
the right place at the right time.
The Longest Shot is the title of
Neil Sagebiel’s first book. It’s the
story of maybe the greatest upset
in golf history—sorry, Francis Ouimet. That
would be unknown Jack Fleck’s comeback
from nine shots and eventual takedown of
mighty Ben Hogan in an 18-hole playoff at
the 1955 U.S. Open Championship at The
Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif.
The title could just as easily refer to Sagebiel.
He moved from Seattle to Floyd, Va., in
