The past four VSGA Women ’ s Amateur champions are all playing Division I golf as well , two of them at James Madison , which has transitioned from the Colonial Athletic Association to the Sun Belt this season .
Defending Women ’ s Amateur champion Kendall Turner ( Greenbrier CC ) picked up right where she left off this summer , earning her second career individual title in the Charlotte Invitational while helping the Dukes to a second-place finish . The week prior she tied for third at The Ally at Old Waverly . She ended the fall with a 72.83 stroke average .
Tatum Walsh ( Salisbury CC ), the 2020 Women ’ s Am champ , qualified for last year ’ s U . S . Women ’ s Amateur and has played in four of JMU ’ s six events this season . She ’ ll look to improve upon a 77.17 stroke average in the spring .
Virginia Tech ’ s Becca DiNunzio ( Virginia Beach National GC ), the 2021 Women ’ s Amateur champion , shook off a tough 2022 spring season ( 76.5 stroke average in 14 rounds ) with a strong Jillian Drinkard start to the 2022 fall campaign , posting a seventh-place finish at the season-opening Mercedes-Benz Shootout . She finished with a 73.17 average and will look to continue the positive momentum in the spring .
Richmond junior Rory Weinfurther , who won the 2019 VSGA Women ’ s Am , is the Spiders ’ second-leading scorer at 73.00 in nine fall rounds , an improvement over her career average of 75.15 . Three of her six career sub-par rounds came last fall .
In Division III , Jillian Drinkard ( VSGA uClub ) returned for a final season as a graduate student at Methodist and continues to be one of the classification ’ s strongest players . She ’ s ranked seventh in the Golfstat DIII rankings heading into the spring and will once again look to contend at the NCAA DIII Championship . She finished tied for third last year . She finished no worse than T13 in her four fall starts , including a second-place showing at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invite .
