GLOBAL GOLF POST ALL-AM TEAMS Four VSGA members earned spots on the Global Golf Post ’ s 2021 All-Am teams , which were released in November . The honorees were Lauren Greenlief ( International CC ), first-team women ’ s mid-amateur ; Keith Decker ( Ballyhack GC ), first-team senior ; and Amy Ellertson ( Farmington CC ) and Andrea Miller ( The Club at Glenmore ), honorable mention women ’ s senior . |

The inaugural edition of the event was held in early November at Westwood Country Club in Vienna .
Nevins and Moloney were inspired to create the event by friends and fellow competitors who have been recipients of the American Junior Golf Association ’ s Achieving Competitive Excellence ( ACE ) Grant , which provides financial assistance to young men and women who aspire to earn a college golf scholarship and get an excellent education through competitive junior golf .
The DC Metro Cup is part of the AJGA ’ s State Cup Series . There are no entry fees for these events , however players must raise a minimum of $ 1,000 to play . The DC Metro Cup raised nearly $ 41,000 for the ACE Grant , and Nevins and Moloney seek to host the event again in 2022 .
“ We were approached about doing this , we thought it would be a good idea , and it was worth it ,” Nevins told InsideNOVA . com .
VSGA WELCOMES NEW BOARD MEMBERS Three new members have joined the Board of Directors of the Virginia State Golf Association . Duncan Hardcastle ( Magnolia Green Golf Club ), Katie Cox ( Spotswood Country Club ), and Somsak Chivavibul ( River Bend Club ) each began their initial three-year board terms in January after a vote of the full VSGA membership .
In addition , the Board voted on its slate of officers for 2022 . Anne Greever ( Willow Oaks CC ) begins her two-year term as President . Brian Maloney ( Springfield G & CC ) begins a one-year term as Vice President , and Craig Groenendaal ( Laurel Hill GC ) begins a one-year term as Secretary / Treasurer . Gary Beck ( Princess Anne CC ) remains on the Board as Immediate Past President .

USGA ADDS ADAPTIVE CHAMPIONSHIP The USGA has established the U . S . Adaptive Open Championship , a new national championship that will showcase the world ’ s best golfers with disabilities . The inaugural competition will be conducted on Pinehurst Resort ’ s No . 6 course in North Carolina from July 18-20 , 2022 . The same course will host the 2023 championship from July 17-19 . The 54-hole stroke-play championship is open to males and females , professionals and amateurs , with either physical impairment , sensory impairment ( vision ), or intellectual impairment . The field will consist of 96 players . The application process is expected to open in February .
KINGSMILL OFF LPGA SCHEDULE FOR 2022 The 2021 Pure Silk Championship — played in front of a limited number of fans due to the pandemic — will be the last held at Kingsmill Resort , at least for the immediate future . The LPGA released its 2022 schedule in November , and Kingsmill was not on the slate of events for the 2022 campaign . The event ’ s partnership with title sponsor Pure Silk ended after the 2021 event , and the championship was unable to secure a title sponsor for 2022 .
Kingsmill ’ s River Course hosted the LPGA event for the first time in 2003 , when Grace Park won the tournament by one stroke . It took a two-year hiatus in 2010-11 and returned in 2012 and was

AJGA HONORS Three VSGA members were recognized by the AJGA for their outstanding seasons in 2021 . Fairfax ’ s Bryan Lee was named an AJGA first-team boys All-American , and Langley ’ s Chase Nevins ( Trump National Washington DC ) earned AJGA honorable mention boys All-American distinction . Brambleton ’ s Julie Shin , the 2021 VSGA Junior Girls ’ golfer of the year who is bound for the University of Pennsylvania , was named an AJGA Scholastic Junior All-American . Lee and Shin are both members of the VSGA Junior Golf Circuit .
ROANOKE VALLEY GOLF HALL OF FAME Four individuals were inducted into the Roanoke Valley Golf Hall of Fame in November . Due to the pandemic , both the classes of 2020 and 2021 were inducted . Marilyn Bussey , a past president of the VSGA ’ s Women ’ s Division , and longtime Roanoke Times sportswriter Doug Doughty comprised the 2020 class . The 2021 class featured PGA Tour professional Lanto Griffin and his longtime teacher , Blacksburg Country Club professional Steve Prater .
TOP TEACHERS Erika Larkin , the PGA teaching professional at The Club at Creighton Farms in Aldie , was named one of the top 50 teaching professionals in the U . S . by Golf Digest . She also heads the rankings of Best Teachers by State for Virginia . Larkin tied as the 46th best teaching professional in the country . The top five teachers in Golf Digest ’ s Best Teacher by State listing for Virginia were Larkin , Mike McGetrick ( Robert Trent Jones GC ), Gavin Parker ( Salisbury CC ), Leighann Albaugh ( Magnolia Green GC ), and Billy Hoffman ( Westwood CC ).
