The quirky nature of the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 PGA Tour schedule had a ripple effect on the 2020-21 slate . The result is a PGA Tour “ super season ” that features a full 50 events , the most since 1975 , and six majors . It also forced the PGA Tour out of Asia , at least temporarily , as previously scheduled events in South Korea and Japan were moved to the American West Coast to alleviate travel concerns . The Tour figures to officially return to Asia this fall .
Though there are no official PGA Tour events on tap , there will be one important competition in the Far East : The rescheduled Olympics in Japan . The race to see who the United States sends to Saitama will add an intriguing subplot to an already stuffed PGA Tour schedule .

The only time that Torrey Pines hosted both a regular Tour event and the U . S . Open , it produced a double winner . Tiger Woods won what was called the Buick Invitational by eight strokes in January before defeating Rocco Mediate in a memorable 18-hole Monday playoff in June to claim the third of his three U . S . Open titles .
