Equipment YOU’LL WANT TO TRY THESE IN 2016 GOLF’S MAJOR BRANDS have introduced their latest product lines for 2016. Whether you’re in the market for drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges or putters, there’s something new in every category from most companies. Highlights include: COBRA KING F6 driver Cobra’s KING F6 driver has a dual position frontto-back CG system with 10-and 3-gram flip weights. The ball flight changes depending on how the weights are oriented in the adjustable-lofted, titanium clubhead. The heavier weight up front will yield a penetrating ball flight with less spin that delivers more roll and distance. Positioned in the back CG position, that 10-gram weight delivers a higher ball flight with more spin—creating more carry and forgiveness. You can also remove the 3-gram weight completely for an increased range of performance that maximizes CG movement and spin differential. “This stronger, lighter CarbonTrac (flip weight base) structure creates the perfect combination of adjustable low CG and high inertia,” says Tom Olsavsky, vice president of research and development at Cobra. “Golfers will discover the best in distance, forgiveness and precision in the F6.” $349. Cobragolf.com by SCOTT KRAMER Titleist has plenty of irons in play both on Tour and with consumers. For 2016, the company is offering new versions of its two most popular sets. The 716 AP1 is touted as Titleist’s longest and most-forgiving iron ever. Its 360-degree undercut cavity adds flex to the unsupported thin clubface during impact, which in turn enhances distance. You’ll likely find this rendition feels more lively than the 714 version. Meanwhile, the 716 AP2 is forgiving. Its forged carbon steel clubhead has high-density tungsten in the heel and toe of the longer irons, which enhances feel. It has “the look of a tour blade while still having the consistency and forgiveness of a forged cavity,” says Jordan Spieth, 2015 PGA Tour Player of the Year. AP1: $1,099/set (graphite shafts), $899 (steel); AP 2: $1,399 (graphite), $1,199 (steel). Titleist.com 38 V I R G I N I A G O L F E R | J A N UA R Y / F E B R UA R Y 2 0 1 6 vsga.org PHOTOS B
