New Treasurer Appointed
The Rt. Rev. Shannon S. Johnston has appointed Edward
(Ted) A. Smith IV as the new treasurer of the Diocese of
Virginia. Smith began his new position on May 1.

was interviewed four times by different
teams that included experts from
outside the diocesan staff.
Ted attends Immanuel, Old Church,
and has been active in the Diocese. He
and his wife, Carolina Lugo, and their two
children, Quin and Lucy, live on a farm in
King William County east of Richmond.
“Across the Diocese, everyone has
been very welcoming,” said Smith. “I’m
excited to join the staff at Mayo House
and get to work with our churches
and organizations. I’ve already been
able to meet with and help out several
individuals and groups and I look
forward to much more of the same.”
Smith succeeds Mike Kerr, who
served on staff as treasurer for 21 years.
Kerr will continue to serve the Diocese
as chief executive officer of the Trustees
of the Funds.

welcoming Ted as we begin our work
together in this inspiring season of
renewal for the Diocese of Virginia,”
said Johnston. t
Ordination
Smith is a graduate of the University
of the South, with an MBA from Wake
Forest University. He has worked as
a financial analyst and leader in both
the corporate and non-profit worlds,
including the University of Virginia
Investment Management Company
and Genworth Financial. At each of
his career stops, he has been heavily
involved in financial management,
forecasting, analysis and reporting.
Most recently, he served as a senior
financial analyst for the Global Research
& Development unit of Reckitt Benckiser
Pharmaceuticals in Richmond.
