While the pandemic paused cruise lines for a period of time , it did not pause their appetite to innovate , adopt new technologies and recreate the onboard experience to be better than ever . Cruise lines spent some of their downtime reevaluating how they ’ ve historically operated and strategizing new ways to streamline dining , onboarding and disembarking processes and enable more efficient passenger flow in congested areas . Passengers have indicated their preference to bypass face-to-face transactions for the smaller tasks and save their personal encounters for high-value interactions . Digitization and automation of previous onboard practices are changing the shipboard experience fundamentally .
