Parked up the back at Old Dadswell Town with the stunning Grampian Mountains
as their backdrop, it was hard not to notice the 1958 FC Holden and 1953 Clipper
caravan combination shimmering in the golden glow of the post-storm sunset.
Impressed by the restoration of
the FC, Don eagerly popped the
bonnet open to show me what
machinery was inside. It turns
out he only bought the car three
months ago. As he lifted up the bonnet
I did a very bad job of withholding my
swoon as I gazed upon the late model
Holden 3.8-litre V6. It was the exact
engine I have always said I wanted to go
into my Cresta! Having heard that this can
be a very costly transplant, I was eager to
find out how he had gone about it. Don
told me that most of the modifications
had already been done when he bought
the FC. Apparently the entire operating
gear of the car is late model Holden
including the transmission, power
