On show at Jumpers and Jazz Puss helping with layout way to frame the front and back windows with fabric, elastic and thumb tacks! All the sections were then wrapped around the van and joined. Louis and I then worked out how to attach the ‘jumper to the underside of the van, with clips, zip ties and wool”, Lisa tells me. “The Egg made her public debut at Warwick’s Jumpers and Jazz in July festival this year. It’s a yearly ten-day festival when the town dresses all the trees in knitted and crocheted jumpers. It is a fabulous celebration of textile art and great Jazz music. Lots of different objects are ‘yarn bombed’ each year, and the organizers were thrilled to include our work of art called: ‘The Egg Bomb Project’ in the festival. She was displayed on both weekends at various locations, and was definitely a crowd-puller! So much so, that lots of people were asking if it would be back next year, so I promised them an even bigger display, with The Egg being towed by a something equally yarn bombed! After that, the ‘jumper’ will be disassembled into blanket-sized pieces and donated to aged care homes in the area. I am so proud of The Egg, and the great team effort of everyone involved”. I was thankful for the opportunity to visit Lisa and Louis on my way down to Victoria. While I was taking photos of the Sunliner, I noticed a large fence around what appeared to be a shed of some kind I asked what was in there. After we did the photo shoot of the Sunliner they were only too happy to show me around the still under construction project that they have named: “The Kompound”. And yes, there is a definite VW Kombi theme! The central concreted area showcases a few old Kombis, surrounded by a newly built performance stage and each space surrounding the centre area has room housing all manner of collections; old motorbikes, old books, display cases with Louis’ Snoopy collection, Lisa’s 1920s Oriental sewing area, and a collection of old cameras and film equipment that belonged to Louis’ photographer father. There is also a mechanical workshop that will have a steampunk theme. Louis and Lisa tell me that the inspiration for the creative space was to provide a retreat for people to come together and share their vintagecaravanmagazine | 23
