Feature Caravan All That Glitters WORDS & PICS AMANDA HOPPE My name is Amanda Hoppe, I am thirty-eight years old and I live in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. I grew up on Malcolm Island, off the Northern tip of Vancouver Island, in a small fishing village called Sointula. British Columbia is where my camping roots began. As a kid my parents would take my three other siblings and I out to Sam’s Place to camp. We would set up our big army canvas tent and inhabit it for the next three months, cooking all three meals on the fire, bathing in the stream and peeing in the bushes. We were only six miles from home. I would have to blame my fibreglass Boler trailer addiction on my youngest sister Victoria. She bought a Boler in November 2012 and asked me to help with picking interior colours and upholstery. I love decorating houses and fabrics are my favourite part. I found myself becoming obsessed with decorating her trailer, searching Pinterest and scouring thrift stores daily. I would call her and say: “Vic you’ve just got to buy this! Vic you should do this!” vintagecaravanmagazine | 9
