As we eat and drink into 2016, don’t be surprised if you notice these food and dining industry trends rising up. 1. THE NEIGHBORHOOD SPECIAL Neighborhood grocery stores that carry unique brands and specialized retail items are curated to fit the needs of the community. The hyper-local feel, and intimate relationship between patrons and retailers makes a trip to the store more of an experience – less like a chore. Many include cafes or restaurants inside. 2. CASUALLY FAST New vision and accessibility are the driving factors in this rising trend. Chefs conceptualize an approachable dining experience with a low price point – guests won’t have to pay $100 to get a chef-inspired meal. Typical fast casual includes names like Panera, Five Guys, and Chipotle. FOOD TO YOUR DOOR In 2016, the ability to get quality cuisine delivered will continue to grow. According to Forbes, “Amazon, Google, Instacart and Uber are leading the way as over $500 million was invested in food delivery start-ups in 2014.” Meal kits and services like Blue Apron, which deliver ingredients and recipes to your home mean farm to table ingredients, pre-portioned servings, clean eating and convenience. Restaurants will respond by make delivery options more available and updating websites or technology to be increasingly user-friendly. 4.
